In-Riser Technologies - Production Enhancement

Overview

Paradigm’s In-Riser Production Optimization service delivers low-cost, retrofit and future-ready artificial lift solutions using Flexi-Coil® composite coiled tubing technology.

The service enables in-riser gas lift and velocity string installations to stabilize production, mitigate severe slugging, and improve recovery from subsea wells affected by declining pressure and increasing water cut. Unlike conventional steel tubing solutions, Paradigm’s service can be deployed on facilities without direct vertical access, including FPSOs, TLPs, and semi-submersibles.

The service is applicable to both new developments—where assets are designed for future artificial lift— and operating facilities seeking a rapid, low-risk alternative to subsea boosting and other conventional techniques. In both cases, operators benefit from reduced CAPEX, shorter lead times, and improved lifecycle flexibility.

Why In-Riser Technologies - Production Enhancement Matters

Deepwater operators are increasingly focused on capital efficiency, optionality, and payback certainty as reservoir performance and long-term production forecasts remain uncertain.

For many new developments, artificial lift is not required during early life, yet conventional solutions such as riser-base gas lift must be installed during construction—adding cost, complexity, and long-term maintenance exposure for systems that may sit idle for years. Retrofitting lift later is often even more expensive, particularly on facilities without direct vertical access.

Paradigm’s service allows operators to separate design intent from capital commitment. Assets can be engineered to accommodate future in-riser gas lift or velocity strings without installing unused subsea infrastructure, materially reducing upfront CAPEX while preserving a clear pathway to intervention.

For mature assets, the same service provides a proven retrofit solution to stabilize flow, reduce back-pressure, and improve recovery without subsea construction or major facility modification.
In both cases, operators gain faster deployment, earlier payback, and lower lifecycle emissions while maintaining flexibility as reservoir behaviour evolves.

How We Deliver

Paradigm delivers In-Riser Production Optimization through a lifecycle-aware service model supporting both new developments and operating assets.

For new projects, Paradigm engages during concept select and FEED to define future-ready in-riser artificial lift provisions, including bespoke access points, tubing hang-off concepts, and topsides interfaces. These features are straightforward to incorporate during design, improving constructability and avoiding unnecessary upfront capital spend.

For existing assets, Paradigm performs candidate screening and detailed engineering to deploy Flexi-Coil® composite tubing through complex topsides layouts, turrets, pontoons, and lazy-wave riser systems—without the need for direct vertical access or subsea hang-off operations.
The lightweight, flexible nature of Flexi-Coil® enables surface hang-off, modular rig-up, and rapid installation, minimizing production deferment and operational risk.

Execution is delivered by experienced intervention teams using proven procedures, providing a repeatable, low-risk service aligned with operators’ production optimization and life-extension objectives.

What’s Included in In-Riser Technologies - Production Enhancement

The In-Riser Production Optimization service includes:

  • Collaborative candidate screening and production / flow assurance assessment.
  • Concept selection between in-riser gas lift or velocity string.
  • Detailed engineering and facility-specific deployment design.
  • Supply and deployment of Flexi-Coil® composite tubing.
  • Surface hang-off systems and topsides integration.
  • Installation, commissioning, and performance verification.
  • Optional retrieval and redeployment to preserve full-bore access for future ILI or interventions.

The service can be executed as a standalone intervention or integrated into broader flow assurance or life-extension programs, providing operators with a flexible and scalable pathway to improved production performance.

FAQ

How does Flexi-Coil® differ from conventional steel in-riser tubing?

Flexi-Coil® is a composite coiled tubing system designed specifically for riser and flowline interventions. Unlike steel tubing, it can navigate short-radius pipe bends and complex topsides layouts, enabling installation on facilities without direct vertical access, such as FPSOs and semi-submersibles. Its lightweight, flexible construction allows surface hang-off and modular rig-up, eliminating the need for subsea construction or DSV support while significantly reducing cost, schedule, and operational risk.
