- Flexi-Coil® - Blockage Remediation
Overview
Flexi-Coil® is a patented technology specifically designed for the efficient remediation of material deposition within pipeline, riser, and flowline systems. It is built to operate directly from the production facility topsides, often eliminating the need for vessel-based or subsea intervention.
Flexi-Coil® uses a proprietary composite coiled tubing and small lightweight deployment system. During deployment from the topsides, Flexi-Coil® is connected to a high pressure fluid pumping system which circulates through the coil and discharges via a multi-nozzle bottom hole assembly (BHA).
Flexi-Coil® is designed to recover up to 100% of pipeline blockage debris including waxes, sands, asphaltenes and hydrates.
By using low-density composite materials, Flexi-Coil® is neutrally buoyant in seawater which assists in achieving deployment distances of over 10 kilometres from the topsides entry point, while navigating pipeline geometries involving over 1,000 cumulative degrees of bends.
Due to the design of Flexi-Coil®, direct vertical access or line of sight to the riser entry point is not required to deploy the technology giving greater flexibility for the system to be adapted to any facility and equipment to be positioned over multiple decks or even fully on a FPSO turret.
Why Flexi-Coil® - Blockage Remediation Matters
By conducting remediation activities directly, this gives operators greater control over their operations and removes the need for any subsea intervention, leading to cost control and certainty in their approach.
How We Deliver
During deployment from the topsides, Flexi-Coil® is connected to a high pressure fluid pumping system which circulates through the coil and discharges via a multi-nozzle bottom hole assembly (BHA). Due to its low-density composite materials, Flexi-Coil® is neutrally buoyant in seawater which assists in achieving deployment distances of over 10 kilometres from the insertion point, while navigating pipeline geometries involving over 1,000 cumulative degrees of bends.
Due to the design of Flexi-Coil®, direct vertical access or line of sight to the riser entry point is not required to deploy the technology giving greater flexibility for the system to be adapted to any facility and equipment to be positioned over multiple decks or even fully on a FPSO turret.
What’s Included in Flexi-Coil® - Blockage Remediation
Paradigm provides our full service capability including in-house engineering along with our Flexi-Coil® technology and specialist field personnel.
In addition we require the support of 3rd party fluid pumping and filtration specialists to facilitate the deployment of Flexi-Coil® and the filtration / disposal of recovered deposits.
To support transportation and site handling, the maximum weight of any single system component is restricted to 17,650 lbs (8,000 kg). This limitation ensures compatibility with offshore and onshore cranage capacities and allows for global air freight using conventional commercial cargo aircraft, thereby facilitating faster mobilisations to urgent operational requirements.
FAQ
What is Flexi-Coil®?
Flexi-Coil® is Paradigm’s patented technology for the removal of pipeline blockage and wall deposit materials in hydrocarbon systems. The technology is a miniaturized flexible coiled tubing system which utilizes a neutrally buoyant composite coil to navigate through topside and subsea bends, reaching extended distances to restore or enhance production.Flexi-Coil® can pass through over 1000 degrees of cumulative bends, removing the need for any vessel / subsea intervention and giving operators much greater control of their remediation activities.
What type of materials can Flexi-Coil® remove?
Flexi-Coil® has a track record spanning over a decade in removing a wide range of pipeline blockage materials including paraffin waxes, sands, asphaltenes and hydrates globally.
What distances can Flexi-Coil® reach?
Flexi-Coil® can reach distances over 6km / 20,000ft in standard pipeline systems, with added capability to reach in excess of 10km / 33,000ft in some cases.
How much debris can Flexi-Coil® remove?
Flexi-Coil® can recover up to 100% of pipeline blockage material, returning the pipeline back to base metal ready for inspection or restarting production as shown from previous projects.
What sizes of pipelines can Flexi-Coil® be used in?
Flexi-Coil® can be used in lines as small as 4” diameter with the largest project to date taking place inside a 24” export pipeline. Also as Flexi-Coil® is a composite material and neutrally buoyant, there is no risk of causing abrasive wear to the inner-wall or flexible carcass.
