Wet Testing

Overview

Wet Testing is Paradigm’s established service for proving deluge system readiness by flowing water through the system and recording what it actually delivers. It is designed for operators and duty holders who need clear, defensible evidence as part of an asset safety case.
We mobilise the right equipment and competent personnel to execute the test safely, measure results against the system requirements, and document the outcome. Where appropriate, we can also dose corrosion inhibitors during the final stage of the wet test using our eductor process, helping protect the system after it has been flowed.

Applications

Wet Testing is applied when you need a direct, water based confirmation that a deluge system will deliver the required coverage, flow and pressure under real demand conditions. It is typically used during commissioning, after major modifications, following remediation work, or as part of periodic compliance requirements within an asset safety case.
Common scenarios include:

  • Commissioning and handover: demonstrate operational readiness before start up, and create a documented baseline for future comparisons.

  • Post maintenance or upgrades: confirm that replacement nozzles, pipework sections, deluge valves or pumps are performing as intended.

  • Suspected debris or internal contamination: wet testing can provide evidence of foreign material in the flow path that may impact performance, supporting decisions on cleaning or remediation.

  • High assurance environments: offshore, marine, oil and gas, petrochemical and infrastructure assets where firewater deluge is safety critical and evidence must stand up to scrutiny.

Because wet tests can introduce operational challenges, many clients use a blended strategy, combining periodic wet tests with Dry-Flo® dry testing to reduce disruption while maintaining assurance.

Benefits

Definitive, measurable proof of system readiness
We measure performance against system specification, expected flow rates, pressure and functionality. This gives a clear pass or fail outcome based on recorded values.

Evidence of debris and restrictions
Wet testing can reveal issues related to debris and foreign material within the flow path. That matters because blockages and restrictions often develop out of sight until the system is demanded.

Actionable close out reporting
You receive a close out report with the test results and, if required, options for remediation works. That shortens the path from findings to corrective action.

Optional corrosion inhibitor dosing at the end of the test
Where appropriate, we can dose corrosion inhibitors during the last minutes of the wet test using Paradigm’s eductor process. This helps reduce post test corrosion risk in systems that have just been flowed.

A clear basis for a smarter testing strategy
Wet testing remains a key tool, but the results can also support a plan that reduces future wet test burden by using Dry-Flo® dry testing in between.

Digital system compliance verification

FAQ

What does wet testing prove that desktop checks cannot?

Wet testing shows what the system actually delivers when water is flowing. We measure against system specification, expected flow rates, pressure and functionality, providing evidence of compliance and operational readiness.

Yes. One of the purposes is to provide evidence of issues related to debris and foreign material within the flow path. That evidence can guide cleaning or system remediation scopes.

Paradigm provides a close out report that includes the results from the wet testing and options for remediation works if necessary. This makes it easier to brief stakeholders and plan the next steps.

As an option, corrosion inhibitors can be dosed into each system during the final stage of the test using Paradigm’s eductor process. This is intended to help protect the system after it has flowed.

In recognition of the problems wet testing can cause, Paradigm developed Dry-Flo® to reduce and potentially eliminate the requirement for wet testing in certain strategies, subject to asset and authority requirements. Many clients use dry deluge testing between wet tests to maintain assurance with less disruption.

About Paradigm Fire Protection Services

Paradigm Fire Protection Service offers performance based deluge testing technologies and remediation services.
Save cost, reduce operational disruption and increase asset lifespan with Paradigm Dry Deluge Testing: The only verified dry deluge test in the world Dry-Flo® testing involves flowing low-pressure, dried air into the deluge system. At low pressures air replicates the flow of water exactly, enabling us to take readings throughout the deluge system to prove compliance. Our software package processes this information to give live data in both a graphical and numerical format so the operator can quickly identify whether a system is compliant. If this isn’t the case the software can immediately show the operator where the issue is within the system, allowing our technicians to inspect and remediate as necessary. Dry-Flo® has been qualified in accordance with DNV-DSS-401, Technology Management /1/ and DNV GL considers it qualified for its intended use following DNV RP-A203 /2/ and is currently undergoing Bureau Veritas and Lloyds Register certification procedures.
