E35 DD e-Winch®

The E35 Double Drum e-Winch® design is based on the latest standard in electric drive technology. Electric power from grid supply or a generator is directly converted into winch motion by servo motor and inverter technology. A liquid-cooled, high-torque permanent magnet motor drives the winch drums through a planetary gearbox and roller chain, giving precise control of speed, torque and acceleration — either software-controlled or by the operator.

The E35 is a single-lift, containerized winch unit with a double drum arrangement and easily exchangeable drums. It is designed to optimize LWI operations across the full range of open hole and cased hole work, accepting Paradigm’s PD15 or PD18 open hole drums and PD10 cased hole drum, and is also compatible with NOV Elmar ASEP style winch drums. The roof opens completely via hydraulic cylinders to allow drum exchange, with an optional hands-off drum exchange system for safer, more efficient offshore changeouts.

The unit is operated through Paradigm’s Plug-and-Play Control & Monitoring System, which allows control from a local control station, a control chair in a control room, a portable winch control panel or a handheld remote control. The same system can control multiple winches from a single chair. For more technical details, please refer to the datasheet or contact Paradigm for additional information.

FAQ

What types of operations is the E35 Double Drum e-Winch® suitable for?

The E35 Double Drum e-Winch® is designed for the full range of light well intervention work, covering both open hole and cased hole logging as well as heavy-duty wireline and mechanical services. Its dual drum configuration accepts PD15/PD18 open hole drums and a PD10 cased hole drum, and is compatible with NOV Elmar ASEP style drums. The direct electric drive provides precise speed, torque and acceleration control — from ultra-slow stable logging below 0.1 m/min up to fast jarring — making it highly versatile for both standard and complex interventions, on land or offshore.

The direct electric drive delivers rapid responses for fast stopping, instant torque for fast acceleration and jarring, and ultra-slow stable logging speeds. A high degree of automation and operator-defined safety functionality prevents overpulls, pull-offs at surface and other unsafe situations, backed by a fail-safe, spring-activated band brake and automatic brake test. Depth and tension are measured redundantly by the PM08 head with two independent measuring wheels. Efficiency is further improved by the Plug-and-Play Control & Monitoring System, which lets a single operator run multiple winches from one chair while preparing the next job offline, with full remote control and diagnostics.

Because grid or generator power is converted directly into winch motion, the E35 eliminates the diesel engine and hydraulic system found in conventional winches — removing direct exhaust CO₂ emissions (versus roughly 20 kg/hr, or about 100,000 kg over an 8-year/5,000-hour life, for a comparable diesel-hydraulic unit) and the risk of hydraulic oil spills. It runs at low noise (< 75 dB(A) at 1 m), is energy efficient with no hydraulic losses, and during running-in-hole and deceleration the motor acts as a generator, feeding brake power back to the drive system, with full energy recovery planned for future versions.

Yes. The system works with variable grid voltage from 380 to 480 VAC at 50 or 60 Hz, and the current draw can be set anywhere between 16 A and 125 A in the machine control software to match the available supply. At a reduced power supply the winch still reaches maximum line tension at a reduced line speed, or maximum line speed at a reduced tension — for example, on the PD15 drum it maintains its maximum nominal line tension at average diameter while line speed scales with the available 125 / 63 / 32 / 16 A input. A portable diesel genset, solar panel and battery pack are also available as power options.

Optional hardware includes ATEX/IECEx Zone 1 or Zone 2 certified drive systems, alternative planetary gear ratios and supply voltages, a hands-off drum exchange system, ParaSheave™ with depth and tension, well control functions and pressure sensors, Slick-E-Line® and Slick-O-Line® integration, desert/arctic temperature options, and battery, solar or diesel genset power. On the software side, the basic suite can be extended with licensed options such as constant speed/cruise control, constant tension, automated jarring, boost power, stuffing box and well-pressure monitoring, dynamic braking, ParaView™ live data trending, remote machine and satellite access, and products including ParaLife™, ParaRun™, ParaChart™, the Winch Simulator and Ai-Winch™ autonomous software.
